Why laser treatment?
Lasers are the only permanent method of hair reduction. Large areas of the body can be treated at one time making laser hair removal faster and more cost effective than other methods. Laser hair removal causes less discomfort than other hair removal methods.

How does the Excelase Clinic’s Laser System work?
In order to understand how Laser hair removal works we need to look at the colour of the hair and also the growth cycle of the hair.
Hair growth occurs in a cyclical fashion, with an active growing phase called Anagen and a resting phase called Telogen .During the Anagen phase the hair is connected directly to the hair matrix in the base of the follicle .During the resting phase (Telogen) however, the hair bulb moves away from the base of the follicle so there is a gap between the bottom of the hair and the hair follicle.
The colour of the hair depends on the presence of a pigment called melanin, which is produced by melanocytes, that are in the hair bulb. In laser hair removal, the target is this melanin pigment. Thus the more melanin an individual has in his/her hair, the more effective a laser will be. Therefore white, blond and grey hair is not suitable for laser hair removal.
The Laser emits a high energy laser light that is absorbed by the melanin (pigment) located in the hair follicle. The laser is pulsed, or turned on, for only a fraction of a second. The duration of each pulse is just long enough to treat the hair follicle, and not damage the surrounding skin Once absorbed, the light transforms into heat, destroying not only the hair but the hair matrix and the hair bulb at the base of the follicle .The heat generated in the hair follicle is conducted down to the base of the base of the follicle much more readily in Anagen hair (as it is still connected to the base of the follicle) than in the resting Telogen phase.
This is why laser hair removal is more effective in the active Anagen growing phase. As hair follicles are at different phases, multiple treatments are required.

I've had treatment before and it didn't work
You may have been treated previously with a low energy IPL device Salons tend to use these cheaper non laser therapies that tend not to work on course hair even after 10 or more sessions. Additionally some clinics use machines designed for pale skin on darker skin. Excelase uses a laser that is safe and effective on individuals with all skin types, our treatments are also effective on darker thicker hair.
At Excelase our therapists are fully trained in how to produce the safest and the most effective results.
